prato. restaurant. graz.

The restaurant Prato im Palais you can find in the Sackstrasse - directly on the opposite side of Kastner & Öhlers' entry of Infected.

We were visiting the restaurant around lunchtime and I think this was a mistake. Because the lunch menu called mood food is not really an experience you need to make. You can find only 13 dishes on the menu - antipasti, soup and dessert included. The dishes are very simple and the combinations not creative at all. You can order for example a Ceasars Salad with scampi, Wiener Schnitzel with parsley potatoes or Backhendlsalat.

The food was okay, but you can find in Graz better addresses for a real good lunch. Well, I love the Austrian kitchen - especially since I'm living in China. I just missed something special - a kind of USP they would offer their guests. But the prices are definitely not too high and reasonable.

The ambiance is on the other side really very nice and worth seeing. I think the name Prato im Palais is explaining everything :D I really felt comfy there - even though I didn't like the chairs at all. They are lilac and made out of velvet. A combination I would expect in a not too pricy hairdresser at the countryside...

All in all I was disappointed from my first visit to the Prato. Even the nice ambiance couldn't come up for the shortcomings of the menu. If I would recommend it? Not really. Well, at least not at lunch time. But who knows? Maybe they are saving all their creativity and brave combinations for dinner... It's worth one more try :D
